‘SEX OFFENDER’ IS FOUND WITH FATAL WOUNDS
MAN DISCOVERED BY POLICE GOING TO QUESTION HIM OVER FLASHING ALLEGATION
POLICE body camera footage will be scrutinised after a suspected sex offender died after officers went to speak to him about flashing allegations.
When officers entered the flat, on Hall Street near the border of Offerton in Stockport, they found him with serious injuries to his neck.
Police had been called to the property at around 8.30pm on Thursday to speak to him over allegations that he had exposed himself.
The man was taken to hospital but died later that night.
The M.E.N. understands he was on the sex offenders’ register.
An ambulance and several police cars were seen outside after the incident.
Forensics teams in white overalls, masks and blue gloves were seen arriving at and leaving the property yesterday.
Police said they do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has since launched an investigation.
A statement said: “The IPCC understands, at this time, that Greater Manchester Police were called to an address on Hall Street, near Offerton, shortly after 8pm. On forcing entry to the property they discovered a man with injuries, which later proved fatal.
“The IPCC was informed by GMP soon after.
“An IPCC investigator attended the post-incident procedure and took initial accounts from the officers involved, as well as viewing body-worn video footage.
“The investigation is in its early stages and we are working hard to establish the circumstances around this incident.
“All the police officers involved in the incident are being treated as witnesses at this time.”
Yesterday morning, a nearby resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “We heard loads of banging and looked outside and saw police trying to break down the door of one of the houses.
“They were doing that for around ten minutes.
“The police were in there for around 45 minutes to an hour and brought someone out on a stretcher and into an ambulance.”
A police spokesman said: “Officers attended an address on Hall Street in Offerton to execute a warrant. Upon entry they discovered a man with serious injuries to his neck. He was taken to hospital where he later died.
“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. The IPCC have been made aware.”
