BUS stops filled with floral displays on an urban street scene will be among the highlights of this year’s RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park.

This year’s floral extravaganza will see a host of urban gardens in a bid to encourage budding gardeners to green up even the greyest of city spaces.

The Bus Stop Boulevard display will be a 25m-long street scene recreated amid the greenery of Tatton Park - featuring six bus stops filled with floral displays created by communities and designers from across Greater Manchester.

Other highlights at this year’s event, which runs from July 19-23, will be a tropical butterfly dome filled with 2,000 butterflies.

Show bosses officially launched this year’s event in Manchester, on the hidden rooftop garden at show sponsor Bruntwood’s new NEO building in China Town.

There will also be a show garden to tackle flash flooding in response to challenging weather events of recent years.

The Slow the Flow Garden, by Lancashire-based John Everiss, will show how to harness, conserve and slow the rainfall in urban spaces.

Meanwhile, Stockport design duo Dan Newbury and Martin Williams will showcase ways to transform small, bare urban spaces into thriving, multi-functioning gardens.

The Live Garden, also in the ‘Future Spaces’ category, has three levels and features a living wall and innovative technology, including a concealed cinema screen, and uses a live audio feed to capture the sounds of local wildlife.

The Remember Me Garden, created by local designers Jane Bingham and Penny Hearn for the MidCheshire Hospitals Charity, features dementia-friendly ideas such as growing plants popular in the 1960s and 1970s to evoke childhood memories and other horticultural concepts to help ease the symptoms of people with the condition.

The back-to-back garden displays will return and garden shed displays created by a host of local organisations, as well as a host of floral attractions, shopping stalls and food zones at the family-friendly festival.

The Bruntwood Experiment, by headline supporter, Bruntwood, features resilient plants that thrive in our complex, changing and often forgotten urban areas.

Nick Mattingley, Director of RHS Shows said: “As the need for green spaces in urban areas increases, it is more important than ever to inspire people, communities and businesses to plant up, upcycle and do what they can to get greening.

“RHS Flower Show Tatton Park 2017 is full of horticultural ideas and inspiration, as well as thousands of plants to buy so come along in July and get gardening!”
