Families go for gold at SportCity GoFest

-

THE weekend saw the launch of Manchester’s first family sports festival, GoFest, at SportCity - with families keen to get stuck in to the activities on offer.

Sale Sharks and Salford Red Devils rugby sessions were fully-booked, packed with youngsters keen to get tips from the professionals.

Olympic champion, Gail Emms, ran badminton master classes for dozens of youngsters and was delighted with how many families were willing to ‘have a go’.

She said: “It’s such a great event, the perfect chance to bring families together to play some sport and have some fun. I am an ambassador for the event and delighted to be part of it.”

Families were keen to play with the star, and she was up for a challenge with youngsters taking her on for a quick game.

Yesterday, athletics hero Roger Black headed up some sprint sessions.

A team of instructors from Sweat Union, recently opening a brand new gym in Denton, Tameside, were also teaching dance classes such as zumba and aerobic style fitness routines.

Water activities also took place across the road at East Manchester Leisure Centre, on the same site as SportCity.

Organiser Paul Farris said: “I am delighted to bring GoFest to Manchester for the first time and we’ve been getting geared up for the event all week.

“I’m thrilled to see so many families here.”
