MasterChef gives a taste of his menus
SIMON Wood has revealed more mouthwatering details about his Manchester restaurant, including the first menus to be served at the First Street venue.
Named Wood, the self-described fine-dining venue is the first restaurant by the MasterChef winner, and is set to open on Jack Rosenthal Street later this summer.
New menus available include an a la carte menu, a blind tasting menu to be served either in the restaurant or at the six-cover chef’s table, and a menu featuring the three dishes that bagged Simon the title of MasterChef on the BBC show.
A la carte offers starters such as wild mushroom raviolo with sage, chestnut and pangrattato; pigeon with fig, endive and Belazu lardon; and scallop, gremolata, sardine and lemon.
Mains include duck, peach, sauterne, hazelnut and chard; cauliflower, romanesco, almonds and kirkhams; and chicken, chorizo, black olive, saffron and pimiento.
While dessert is an understated offering of milk and cookies; beurre gelato and rum and raisin.
Meanwhile, the tasting menu will change with the seasons, ingredients available and the whim of the chef.
A full tasting menu will be presented to guests, who must book in advance, on a sealed scroll on the night, and the chef’s table will only be available on Friday and Saturday nights.
Simon said about the new menus: “I’m really excited to get these menus out there and see what the response is.
“My focus is on simple dishes and ingredients that pack a punch. The smoked gnocchi is such a simple dish but it tastes amazing.
“Also I’ve included my MasterChef dishes because so many people say that they’d like to try them so it would be silly not to!
“Another thing I’m being asked daily right now is - when are you opening?
“I really hope that we will be able to announce this in the next week or so, so anyone who wants to know should keep an eye on our social media channels. The announcement is imminent.”
