Lisa rocks a new style as stars film salon show

-

FILMING on new BBC drama Age Before Beauty has certainly been causing a stir in the Northern Quarter. The new series, based in a beauty salon, stars a host of familiar faces including Bury’s Lisa Riley, the Royle Family’s Sue Johnston and Grantchester’s Robson Green.

The team have taken over an empty building on Dale Street to create the show’s super-stylish salon, called Mirrorbel.

The salon’s name is a play on the name of the leading character in the drama - Bel, played by Mr Selfridge’s Polly Walker.

The results of filming will be a six-part family saga described as an ‘exploration of youth, age, instant gratification and long-term relationships’ and will involve sibling rivalries and unconventional parenting.

It is written by Debbie Horsfield, who wrote the memorable Cutting It hairdressing show set in Manchester some 15 years ago.

Loose Women star Lisa plays tattooist Tina in the show, and is rocking a VERY different style to her usual look in the role.

The former Emmerdale star was spotted in a full rock-chick ensemble of black leather gilet, fishnet body stocking and what looked like feathered extensions in her hair.

Lisa, who recently starred in the harrowing mini-series Three Girls about the Rochdale sex abuse scandal, was also spotted having a laugh as she pushed a fellow actor in a wheelchair in scenes for the show.

Former Brookside actress Sue, who plays Northern Soul fanatic spray tan technician Ivy-Rae in the show, was also in a quirky ensemble in the new scenes, wearing denim dungarees, a baker boy denim cap and a green parka jacket as she carried boxes out of the beauty salon.

Warrington actress Polly plays homemaker Bel who is begged by her best friend Teddy, played by Robson, to step in and rescue the family’s down-at-heel beauty salon.
