Colts plan to dethrone Kings and close gap at top of table

- SPEEDWAY By HAYLEY BROMLEY

THE Belle Vue Colts are targeting six home wins out of six tonight when they host Kent Kings in the National League.

Rivals Eastbourne have gone four points clear at the top of the table and have a match in hand over the Colts, but a win tonight for Belle Vue would close that to just one.

And they’ll have more than ample firepower to help them with Rob Shuttleworth back after a lengthy spell off through injury.

Kent are also expected to be at full strength apart from one guest booking, Mitchell Davey, in place of Luke Bowen.

“Our lads are so dialled into the track, it’s almost scary,” said Colts boss Graham Goodwin. “Our priority is to win all our home meetings but having said that, I feel tonight will be our toughest to date in Manchester.

“Unfortunately we still don’t have Lee Payne as a result of his shoulder injury, but we’re delighted to have Rob Shuttleworth back in our side and he’s excited to finally be back with the rest of the boys.

“Kent are a very strong team and have a solid contingent of riders from top to bottom. They have a brilliant guest in place of the injured Luke Bowen, Mitchell Davey, who is very good around our track.

“I think the Kings will push us very hard, there’s no doubt about it.

“They’re wanting to make up for lost time and what better way to do it than to come here and get some points on the board?”

Premiership action returns to Manchester on July 14, when British No. 1 and Team GB skipper Craig Cook brings his Belle Vue Aces home to face the Swindon Robins.
