Youngsters given chance to impress boss while in the US

-

UNITED manager Jose Mourinho has handed opportunities to five youngsters by including them in the squad for the pre-season tour of the US.

A 27-man squad has been named for the tour, with United scheduled to play five games before returning to Europe for another two warm-up fixtures, against Valerenga in Norway and Sampdoria in Dublin.

Andreas Pereira has been included and is expected to be given the chance to break into the first-team at Old Trafford after a promising 12 months on loan at Granada.

And he is being joined by four more youngsters who made their senior debuts last season under Mourinho.

Goalkeeper Joel Pereira, who is highly rated by the manager and has extended his United contract until 2021, is on the plane, and it is no surprise to see Axel Tuanzebe also included after a very impressive conclusion to the 2016/17 campaign when he made four Premier League appearances. Scott McTominay and Demetri Mitchell made their firstteam bows on the final day of the domestic season against Crystal Palace, and have both been included in the first team party.

New reserve team manager Ricky Sbragia has taken his charges to Austria, a group which includes James Wilson and Joe Riley, who both suffered serious injuries while on loan last season. Angel Gomes and Zak Dearnley, who were both involved in that game against Palace, are also part of Sbragia’s group.
