/Airline to sell seats next to you

-

MONARCH is set to give its customers the chance to buy the unsold seats next to them on flights.

The airline has introduced two new services, known as ‘Extra Comfort Seat’ and ‘Bid for Extra Legroom’, in partnership with Spanish airline technology specialists Caravelo.

Eligible customers will be contacted via email four days before their flight departure with details of the service.

Travellers who have booked directly through the airline’s website will be offered the chance to buy up to two extra spaces next to their seat if they haven’t already been sold.

The ‘Bid for Extra Legroom’ scheme meanwhile, will allow customers to bid for any unsold upgrade seats that are still available four days before their flight.

Requests for the service can be made up to 26 hours before departure, with a maximum of six customers per booking.

Customers who have already booked a standard seat will be given the opportunity to either ‘Bid for Extra Legroom’ or purchase ‘Extra Comfort Seats’. They will be informed if they have been successful or not with their bid for the extra legroom seats within 24 hours of departure.

Hugo Vicente de Freitas, Monarch’s loyalty and retail product development manager said: “We are delighted to be the first UK airline to offer these particular products to our customers.

“We take great pride in our fantastic customer service and with our new ‘Extra Comfort Seat’ and ‘Bid for Extra Legroom’ initiatives customers can now add more comfort to their journey when flying with Monarch.”

The services are available only to customers who have booked directly through its website.
