ALVES SNUBS CITY

- By STUART BRENNAN

DANI Alves has shocked City by snubbing them at the last minute to join Paris St Germain.

The Blues remained confident the Brazil international would be joining them on a free transfer after agreeing to terminate his contract with Juventus.

But Alves, who got married in Ibiza on Saturday and had a couple of days’ honeymoon with his new wife Joanna Sanz in Spain, left on a private jet headed north.

But Manchester was not his destination, and the flight landed at a Paris airport – and by late afternoon the player was seemingly being pictured after taking his medical.

Sources in Paris claim Alves will be announced on a two-year deal today.

Rumours that Alves would snub City to link up with PSG first arose at the weekend, but the Blues were adamant Alves had given them no indication that he would not be joining them.

It was thought the pull of the Premier League, plus his long-standing relationship with manager Pep Guardiola and friendship with football director Txiki Begiristain, had swung it for City. So it sounds like the Blues were the last to know that Alves, whose new wife has a modelling contract in the French capital, had decided to head to the Parc des Princes instead.

The snub leaves City with a dilemma as they released both right-backs – Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna – last month and were counting on landing Alves and Tottenham’s England international Kyle Walker.

The deal for Walker has hit a snag with Spurs holding out for £50m – and they could play even harder to get now, with City left without a right-back.
