ARIANA CHOIR IS A HIT

- Rebecca.day@trinitymirror.com @RebeccaDayMEN

A TEENAGE choir who brought the nation to tears when they performed with Ariana Grande are now hitting the recording studio.

Inspirational pupils from Parrs Wood High School in Didsbury were hailed a shining example of the best of Manchester when they stood shoulder to shoulder with the US singer at the emotive One Love benefit concert in the days following the Manchester Arena attack. And since their performance was beamed around the world the choir – known as the Parrs Wood High School Harmony Group – have been flooded with requests to perform.

But they are now focussing their efforts on recording a track which will be part of an album raising cash for the One Love Manchester Emergency Fund.

The choir have recorded the song for a collaborative album, STAND TOGETHER, by Choirs With Purpose, which will include performances by 10 singing groups to raise money for a host of charities – including the M.E.N.backed fund to support those affected by the attack and their families.

The Parrs Wood students became a national sensation after they stood alongside Ariana to give a powerful rendition of her 2014 song My Everything. Natasha Seth, 12, warmed the hearts of concertgoers and viewers at home with her emotional solo.

Mark McElwee, headteacher of Parrs Wood High School, said: “I feel honoured that we have been asked to be part of the Choirs with Purpose charity CD.

“Our children came together to represent the community in Manchester at a difficult time.

“They are determined to raise as much money as possible for the victims of the horrific attack and to show that by we are stronger when we come together.”

The album will be released on December 15 and a crowdfunding page has been set up to raise funds, with all money being split between the 10 charities chosen by the groups.

James Hawkins, producer of Stand Together, said: “This is more than just another choir album, it’s a show of true solidarity, of people working together, supporting each other, standing together and singing.”
