Whatever floats your boat, Nicola!

CORRIE STAR’S UNUSUAL HOME

-

SHE’S been making waves since arriving on the cobbles of Coronation Street, and away from Weatherfield actress Nicola Thorp is perfectly at home on the open waters too. For new girl Nicola has revealed she lives on a BOAT – and is planning to moor it up in Manchester now she has won her new high profile role on the soap.

Nicola joined Corrie last month as Nicola Rubinstein, who has been revealed to be the ‘secret’ daughter of resident Corrie baddie Pat Phelan.

While Nicola is originally from Blackpool, she has been living in London in recent years, where she has just bought a canal narrowboat to live on.

She said: “I’ve been obsessed with boats and canals for years and it’s just something I always wanted to do.

“At the moment you have to move [the boat] every two weeks, and at the moment I find it such fun, I love it. Currently she’s in west London, but I’ll be moving her through London and potentially up to Manchester. It will take weeks.”

Nicola is getting used to the ups and downs of boat life, which certainly puts her through her paces.

She laughed: “The worst thing is having to move her on my own, I did it in a storm two nights ago, I fell over three times! And emptying the toilet, of course.”

She plans to bring the boat up to Manchester at some point.

She says: “I go back and to with the boat, I can drag it along on my own.”

Nicola is well used to making waves in all aspects of her life, and as an ‘ardent feminist’ hit the headlines last year when, while working as a temp receptionist in London, she lost her job because she refused to wear high heels.

It led Nicola to become a high profile campaigner aiming to change dress code laws, with her petition on the government’s website signed by 150,000 people and gaining worldwide attention.

She says: “I’ve been brought up to fight for my own beliefs and if something isn’t quite right I’ll fight for it.”

Nicola has also been thrown straight into the deep end of drama at Corrie – discovering that baddie Phelan may be her long-lost father, and she will be embroiled in a series of big summer storylines with dastardly Phelan.

Nicola grew up with a family of Corrie megafans – so they have all been delighted that Nicola has won a role in the show.

“I’ve watched it since I was a kid. I’m a big fan of the show, I’ve had Christmas Day with these people every year, and now here I am on Corrie.”

HOLLYOAKS star Chelsee Healey is celebrating the birth of her baby daughter and says she’s ‘never felt a love like it’. Chelsee has revealed that she suffered a traumatic labour which resulted in an emergency C-section at the weekend.

But she has now been able to return home with her baby girl – and it has been love at first sight for the star.

Chelsee posted the first photo with her daughter on her Instagram account today, an adorable image of the tot’s tiny fingers wrapped around her own.

She also posted a photo with her daughter in hospital, surrounded by presents and balloons, with the message: “Home time for me and my Princess!”.

She said: “So lucky, blessed and grateful. Overwhelmed, I’ve honestly never felt a love like it!
