Time for wall to change

-

I AM writing to you as recently I have walked past the wall in Piccadilly Gardens and I am ashamed of it as an image for Manchester.

If it is not to be demolished surely local artists could decorate it with murals about Manchester or possibly have a competition between local schools to design a mural for this space.

In addition perhaps a vote on what people think best represents Manchester or indeed images from Manchester’s past a proud industrial city could be included. This would all add to a sense of ownership to an ugly brute which just observes those who pass it by and by reaction people just ignore it because it is so ugly.

Alternately hanging plants could be installed as there are lots of small indentations on the concrete where they could be secured, giving a nice edge of green colour or flowers to a gritty, busy urban area.

Along with the Gardens themselves, this addition could compliment them and also give something people here are proud of.

I know the area itself is now owned by a pension provider but surely you can negotiate with them about bringing a sense of pride as well as colour to a grey drab area of the city - which is often the first thing visitors see when arriving.

Here’s hoping something can be done this piece of concrete has remained bare for too long.
