Bank robber tells staff he’s armed with a bomb

-

BANK workers were left terrified after a robber demanded cash and claimed he was carrying a bomb.

The man struck at the Royal Bank of Scotland, on Cheadle High Street, Stockport.

He threatened staff and escaped with a large amount of cash and was seen by witnesses fleeing on a mountain bike in the direction of Kingsway.

Police, who are investigating, say no one was injured in the incident and have appealed for witnesses. Dave Fitton, 68, saw the aftermath of the incident when he spotted a trail of green dye that the stolen money had given off and called the police.

He said: “The first thing that caught my eye was I saw a guy on a bike that was riding on the pavement away from the bank. I didn’t think anything of it until I realised he was wearing a motorbike helmet and there was a load of green dye coming off him. It was like a cloud of green smoke as he rode away, I watched him as far as I could until he disappeared.”

The man is described as wearing dark clothes and a motorbike helmet and riding a black bike.

Afterwards the bank shut as officers spoke with staff and looked for clues. As yet no one has been arrested over the raid at 2pm on Thursday. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident number 1150 of 13/7/17 – or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
