THIS year’s winners of our famous Win a Wedding competition have been announced.
Nick Greenwood and Katie Picken were revealed as the lucky pair and will now finally get their dream day – almost a decade after getting engaged.
Katie was left in total shock and was brought to tears the moment her name was called out.
The couple, from Hyde, were in utter disbelief after years of trying to save up for the perfect wedding.
The soon-to-be Mr and Mrs found out they had won the prize – worth more than £19,000 – at The Manchester Marriott Victoria & Albert Hotel, in Manchester city centre, where their celebration will be held later this year.
Plasterer Nick and stay-at-home mother Katie met in 2008, when they both worked with adults with disabilities.
Getting engaged later the same year, the couple have been waiting almost a decade for their big day.
Nick and Katie will tie the knot at The Manchester Marriott Victoria & Albert Hotel on November 11, in front of 50 of their friends and family.
Later, 100 guests will join them for the wedding reception.
This year’s incredible prize includes a five night ‘mini-moon’ in Tenerife, a cake, the bride and groom’s dress and suit, as well as photography and wedding rings.
The couple, who have three young children together – Morgan, seven, Freddie, five, and one-year-old Noah – collected more than 3,000 tokens to help win the top prize.
Nick and Katie were supported by an army of friends and family in their bid to collect tokens in the paper.
The pair even used social media, posting in a Facebook group asking people to help their cause.
Katie, 27, said: “It’s just so surreal, I thought I was going to faint. This is eight years in the making and I just can’t believe it.”
Husband-to-be Nick, 29, added: “As soon as they said ‘Katie,’ I was like ‘no way,’ you just don’t believe it will happen.
“Our little boy was a bit more confident though, all the way here he was saying ‘I can’t believe we’re going there to win it.’”
