Hunt for second car in A6 crash horror
VAUXHALL VECTRA BELIEVED TO HAVE JUMPED LIGHT BEFORE COUPLE INJURED
POLICE are trying to find a car they believe drove through a red light moments before an horrific crash left a husband and wife with serious injuries.
The couple were walking next to the A6, south of Stockport town centre, when they were involved in a collision with a Renault Clio on Sunday morning.
They are both said to be in a serious condition in hospital.
Officers investigating the incident say a car was seen by a police officer, in an unmarked stationary vehicle, travelling through a red light shortly before the crash.
Detectives are appealing for information about a black Vauxhall Vectra seen before the incident, at around 11.30am on Buxton Road in Heaviley.
The woman, who is in her 50s, suffered multiple injuries and remains in a serious condition. Her partner also has serious injuries to his arms and legs, police said.
As a result of the police contact, the incident has been reported to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
A spokesman for the IPCC said GMP had informed them of the incident and a formal referral would be made in the next few days.
A decision will then be made by the IPCC as to whether the case justifies an independent investigation.
The Renault Clio, which was on its side following the crash, was pulled back onto four wheels by a tow truck which later removed it from the scene. A lamp post which was uprooted in the crash was removed by workmen. Officers carried out skid tests in a marked car as part of the investigation. The apparentlyundamaged silver police BMW was removed by another tow truck.
One man has since been charged in connection with the incident.
Liam Fisher, 21, of Cawdor Court, Farnworth, Bolton, has been charged with two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving other than in accordance with a licence, and using a motor vehicle without insurance. A second man, aged 20, was arrested but later released without charge.
