Mela magic draws huge crowd to party
THOUSANDS of people enjoyed the distinctive sights, sounds and smells of Manchester’s Mega Mela festival – the city’s ever-popular celebration of south Asian culture.
The two-day festival came to an end at Platt Fields Park last night, with the crowds thrilled by stalls, dancing and music.
The stage was centre of most attention, with performances from Hunterz, Raghav, Imran Khan, Labh Janjua and DJ H among many others.
South Asian sports were also featured including Kabaddi, Indian wrestling and stone lifting.
There were also fashion shows, arts and crafts stalls, a funfair and street theatre, as well as food stalls.
The event showcased a diverse array of talent from the Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan and Nepalese communities in and around the Manchester area.
Visitors also enjoyed free henna painting, rangoli, face painting, dance workshops and a fashion show.
The event has been a staple of the city’s summer since it started in 2003.
