SHE revealed her romantic engagement earlier this year, and this weekend it was hen do time for Coronation Street’s Sonia Ibrahim. Sonia, who plays Corrie’s Mel Maguire, headed out on the town with her hens on Saturday night.
But it looked to be a rather sophisticated hen do, with no fancy dress, veils or L plates in sight as the glamorous group headed to celeb haunt bar Neighbourhood in Spinningfields.
Sonia was beaming as she headed into the venue, wearing on-trend gingham print trousers with a cropped white shirt showing a glimpse of her toned tum.
Sonia’s hen do at Neighbourhood came just after the venue revealed its big ‘refresh’ last week with a new DJ area, stage and expanded VIP bar area to make it the perfect party space.
As we revealed in May, Sonia got engaged to her love Arron Machin after a most romantic proposal inside Manchester Town Hall.
Sonia shared a photo of the moment Arron got down on bended knee on the tiled floor next to the grand stone staircases inside the town hall, posting it on Instagram with the message: “I’M ENGAGED this is the moment my beautiful husband to be asked me to be his wife.
“I honestly couldn’t ask for a more perfect man to be my soon to be husband.”
Sonia told the M.E.N. at the time: “I’m so happy to be engaged. He is my best friend as well as my partner and we’re excited to spend the rest of our lives together!
“Although we’d discussed the possibility of it happening one day, I wasn’t expecting it anytime soon so it was a huge surprise.
“It was the most special moment of my life and we couldn’t be happier.
“We’ve been together for a long time and it feels like the right time to take our relationship to the next level.”
Burnley-raised Sonia’s real life romance is a world away from the traumatic scenes she has been involved in since joining Corrie as Mel earlier this year.
For Mel was trapped in the dark and sinister grooming storyline with creepy Nathan Curtis and Bethany Platt, which has seen some of Corrie’s most graphic and controversial scenes in recent weeks.
Fans had originally seen Mel as a co-conspirator with Nathan – but it become increasingly apparent that Mel too was once in the same position as Bethany and was groomed by the baddie herself.
