Women brawl at family festival

-

A FAMILY festival descended into chaos after a brawl erupted among the fairground rides.

Shocking footage has emerged of the incident, showing a group of women fighting on the ground as youngsters watched on in horror.

It was taken at the Manchester Mega Mela, which took place at Platt Fields Park in Fallowfield over the weekend. The video, posted on social media, appeared to show to be four women involved in the fracas, pushing and grabbing each others’ hair and clothing.

Amid screaming and shouting, a child could be heard crying in the background, before the brawling group ended up falling onto a fairground ride. Since being posted online, the video has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times. Police said enquiries are ongoing. The festival has been organised by the Manchester Mela Executive Committee, made up of representatives of the five south Asian nations – Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka – since 2003. In a statement, event organisers said two families involved in a dispute were part of the fracas.

They added: “The individuals have no link to the event and the issue was quickly dealt with by the emergency services.” Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting reference number 1538 of July 22 – or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
