ACCLAIMED actress Sheridan Smith has returned to the stage in Manchester for her final run of shows of hit musical Funny Girl.

Sheridan has won rave reviews as Fanny Brice in the musical on the West End and on tour across the UK, a role made famous on the silver screen by Barbra Streisand.

The show was such a hit on its last run at the city’s Palace Theatre that bosses brought it back for another two-week run starting this week – although this time Sheridan will be joined on stage by former Pop Idol star Darius Campbell as Fanny’s dashing beau Nick Arnstein.

The duo were sharing plenty of smiles when we caught up with them for these exclusive photos on stage in Manchester this week.

Sheridan said: “I’m thrilled to return to Manchester where we began this journey on tour with Funny Girl six months ago.

“It’s such a special space and feels a perfect fit for the wonderful story of Fanny Brice.

“It’s been an amazing run with an amazing company, first at the Menier Chocolate Factory, then in the West End and now across the UK, and we’ll be incredibly sad to say goodbye to this very special show.”

Sheridan is known for her versatility on stage and screen, having won an army of fans on TV in comedies including Gavin and Stacey and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, as well as acclaim for her searing portrayal of cancer patient Lisa Lynch in the BBC’s The C Word, and starring as music icon Cilla Black in ITV’s three-part docudrama Cilla.

Funny Girl is at the Palace Theatre until August 19, for tickets see atgtickets.com/manchester.
