Amy wants Thunder to storm it
AMY Satterthwaite is backing Lancashire Thunder to turn the Kia Super League table upside down and go from bottom last year to top this.
Satterthwaite believes winning the second edition of the KSL is a realistic aim for a Red Rose side who only won one of five matches in 2016.
“We can win it, definitely,” said the New Zealand all-rounder.
“There were moments when we showed glimpses last year, but the biggest thing was that we didn’t score enough runs and have consistency in that area. With Sarah Taylor playing this time, that’s massive for us.
“The Lancashire girls won the county T20 competition recently, which is what you need – to learn the habit of winning.
“We have in-form players as well, and that’s fantastic.”
England World Cup winner Taylor is one of eight new faces in the Thunder squad, including Danielle Hazell, who has taken over the captaincy from Satterthwaite.
That decision was no slight on Satterthwaite. It was just that she was thrown into the job at the last minute last summer following Taylor’s withdrawal.
“I’m not too bothered about that,” said the 30-year-old ahead of tomorrow’s televised opener against Yorkshire Diamonds (2.30pm).
“I enjoy doing the captaincy when I get the chance. But I’m equally happy not doing it.
“At the end of the day, it’s about performing for the team. Last year I went ok (146 runs and two wickets). I guess you are always looking to do better. That is always my mindset.
“It dawned on me how different our squad is when we were introducing the new players a couple of weeks ago.
“When you look at the other teams, a lot of them have changed as well, especially with the internationals players.
“It’s a clean slate for almost everyone.” at Headingley
