Skipper already impressed with Silva

BERNARDO Silva has only just arrived at City but he has already made a big impression on the club captain.

Pep Guardiola has made five major signings this summer to improve his squad, bringing in goalkeeper Ederson, full-backs Benjamin Mendy, Kyle Walker and Danilo and forward Bernardo.

The latter’s participation in the Confederations Cup delayed his arrival at the Etihad and he only started training last week.

A 30-minute cameo off the bench against West Ham was enough to showcase his potential though – impressing his new skipper

“You can see what his qualities are,” Vincent Kompany said.

“He’s got a silky touch, he’s a player who knows how to make key passes and I’m obviously very excited because I know how these kind of players can decide games and help you towards achieving great things. But it’s still pre-season for him. He’s a little bit behind on fitness probably, which is normal and we’ll need him at the right time.”

While Silva is unlikely to be involved in the Premier League opener, the fact Guardiola has praised the ‘immediate impact’ of the 22-year-old suggests he will look to get him involved as soon as possible.

“I am not 100 per cent fit,” the player said after the West Ham game. “This has been my first week, so I am not there yet, but I will be working hard to be fully fit as soon as a can.”
