Fundraiser puts mind and body to the test

-

PHYSICAL challenges for charity are one thing, but Mike Warrington is taking it a step further and adding a mental element to his gruelling task.

Mike, from Stockport, is joining over 60 banking colleagues to take on the ‘Fourtitude Challenge’ with the aim of raising £250,000 for Mental Health UK.

As well as hiking the 3,209ft up Scafell Pike, cycling 100 miles and completing a half marathon, he will also tackle a mental agility challenge – and all in the space of four days.

He is especially motivated as he has seen the effects of mental health problems on some of his closest friends and family.

The Lloyds Bank employee said: “I’m sure everyone knows someone who has experienced mental health problems – I certainly know people that have – so raising awareness of this issue is very important to me. As well as this challenge being for a good cause I also like to push myself to the limit so this challenge was the perfect fit.

“I know it will be tough but the extra motivation of raising money and awareness for a good cause should help me through it.”

The challenge, which will take place from September 4 to 7, was named Fourtitude because one in four people experience poor mental health, and is in aid of Lloyds Banking Group’s two-year charity partnership with Mental Health UK.

The partnership aims to promote awareness of the link between mental health and money problems, as well as raising £2m a year to launch a mental health and money advice service.
