‘Mummy misses you. Sleep tight...’

-

HEARTBROKEN relatives of Sait Mboob have paid tribute to him, laid flowers at the scene of his murder – and urged members of the Moss Side community to ‘remain calm’.

The young footballer, 18, was stabbed to death after a mass fight broke out in Moss Side on Tuesday evening.

Sait’s mother, Marie Ellen Barry, was joined by family members at the scene of her son’s murder to lay flowers and say prayers on Thursday night.

The family released a tribute to him, saying: “Sait was everyone’s best friend, especially his mum’s.

“He was a mummy’s boy who was loved and adored by his mother, he was intelligent and talented. He will be missed by his mum, brothers, sister, grandmother, family and friends.”

In an emotional message to her son, who she was said to be ‘very close to’, Marie wrote: “My boy Sait, my heart is heavy. Life will never be the same without you in the house. You are special and very very special indeed. I love you son, and mummy miss you. Sleep tight, Mummy.”

Scores of bouquets, candles and handwritten messages have been left at the spot where Sait and three other teenagers were injured on Great Western Street.

Another message left at the scene said: “You are gone but you will never be forgotten. We will forever and always miss you.”

During evening prayers, Sait’s relatives urged members of the Moss Side community to ‘stay calm’ in wake of the tragedy.

It is understood the family is in the process of making funeral arrangements.

Sait, from Openshaw, had studied BTEC business at Connell Sixth Form College in Beswick and was hoping to secure a Higher Apprenticeship when he was fatally injured in fighting at Crosshill Street, Moss Side. Before that he had been part of the Manchester City Select Squad, a youth team which can offer a route into the Academy team and a professional career. But Sait’s hopes were ended by injury.

A number of Sait’s friends have spoken to the M.E.N., describing how ‘he got caught up in a mess’ because he was in the ‘wrong place at the wrong time’.

As tributes continue to be paid for the teenager, the police investigation into the death goes on.

Two people have now been held by police in connection with his death. A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder. They both remained in police custody.
