A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was discovered in Newton Heath.

Police were called to an area of woodland at Ten Acres Lane on Tuesday at 5pm and found the body of a man with multiple injuries.

It is believed he lived in the Kenyon Lane area of Moston.

Officers arrested a man, 57, on Friday and a woman, 60, on suspicion of assisting an offender the following day. The man remained in custody for questioning while the woman has been released. The victim has yet to be formally identified but is described as having scruffy facial hair and being in his 40s or 50s.

People in the area around Kenyon Lane say he is of Czech origin and although he spoke little English was a well-known face in the area.

Colin O’Neill, 50, landlord of the nearby Lightbowne Club, say police have studied CCTV of what could have been some of the victim’s last movements on the previous Sunday night.

He said: “Police have been sweeping the area, forensics have been at the back of the club and in the flat where the victim lived. They have been here all week and asked us questions and done door to door. They took our CCTV.” Forensic officers were still at what is thought to be the victim’s flat, on Kenyon Lane, yesterday. Officers have also cordoned off an address on Kingscliffe Street, Moston, for the last few days. Residents believe this scene is also connected to the death. Curtis Daly, 18, said: “Police and CID have been here for three days and have been guarding the house at night. “It is panicking people, you don’t know what’s what and it is not nice to have on your doorstep. They are not going to be there for three days unless it’s something serious.” Det Chief Insp Lewis Hughes, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Our investigation remains on-going as we attempt to establish the full circumstances surrounding this man’s death. “However, we believe we have now managed to identify him. “We are making good progress with our enquiries. However, I would like to continue to appeal for information. “He was found at around 5pm, which is a busy time of the day where a lot of people may have seen something they don’t realise could be key to this investigation. Every piece of information is vital.” Curtis Daly
