Coach backs Fleming to make impact with Storm

MANCHESTER Storm continue to shape their squad for the forthcoming season after signing Nate Fleming for the 2017/18 campaign.

The 28-year-old Canadian forward will offer a lot to Storm as he can play both as a defenceman and a centre.

Fleming has had a good career, having played for fellow Elite League side Edinburgh Capitals, along with the University of British Columbia.

Storm head coach Ryan Finnerty is delighted to have him, and has backed him to perform for his new side.

“I had the chance to watch Nate play when he was in Edinburgh,” he said.

“His ability to play forward and defence was something we wanted, which isn’t easy to find.

“Nate took a year off and helped coach UBC which I actually see as an asset. The view behind the bench changes the way you look at the game and gives you a new appreciation of how fortunate we are to be playing the game we love for a living.

“I expect Nate to come in and contribute whether that’s up front or on defence.

“He’s happy playing either position, and like I said players like that are hard to find.”

He is Storm’s 15th import, and joins the likes of Linden Springer and Matt Stanisz to have signed for the club in recent weeks.

It isn’t much longer until the fans can see them take to the ice, as Storm have a friendly against Sheffield Steelers at the Silverblades Ice Rink in Altrincham on Sunday, August 27.
