CITY TO OFFER SANCHEZ £400K A WEEK
CITY are prepared to make Alexis Sanchez the highest paid player in their history – if he can force a move before the end of the transfer window.
Pep Guardiola is desperate to add the Chilean to his squad – but has come up against stubborn resistance from Arsenal.
City are prepared to pay Sanchez £325,000-a-week, with image rights taking the personal package to £400,000 – £21m-a-year.
But they are running out of time to strike a deal before the summer window closes at the end of the month.
Despite spending £220m on new recruits since the end of last season, Guardiola still intends to add to his squad.
He wants a world class striker – with Sanchez and Kylian Mbappe the names at the top of his wanted list – and cover at centre-back.
Despite describing the current spending in world football as ‘unsustainable’, Guardiola made a pointed reference to Neymar’s world record £200m move to Paris Saint-Germain – insisting some players are worth any amount of money.
“I remember signing Dani Alves for 37m euros,” he said. “Everyone thought that was crazy.
“That is the equivalent of 50-55 million now, but Alves was one of the best full-backs in Barcelona’s history.
“Three or four players will never be expensive because of what they will give you.”
