A MUM has launched a nationwide appeal to find a kind-hearted stranger who paid £85 for her stranded daughter’s train ticket home.

The mystery woman is said to have stepped in when Andrea Ballancore’s 16-year-old daughter missed her return train from Stockport to Bristol on Sunday.

Andrea claims ticket office staff at Stockport railway station refused to let her daughter catch the next train without paying an extra £85.

The passerby is said to have taken pity on the youngster and paid for her train ticket home.

In a quest to find the generous Good Samaritan, grateful mum Andrea posted a thank you on Facebook with a photograph of her daughter.

She wrote: “This is my daughter. She just missed her train back to Bristol from Stockport.

“Her first ever big train journey solo and the woman in the ticket office would not allow her to board the next train without paying an additional £85.

“She is 16. Please can you share this post far and wide, (especially my northern contacts) as I would like to repay and thank the kind woman who took pity on my daughter and bought her a ticket!

“Long shot but hope this finds you, you wonderful lady you.”

The post has been shared more than 25,000 times since Sunday with hundreds of people praising the kind woman.

Linda Dobson commented: “There are more good and nice people in the world than there are bad...They just don’t make the news as easily... Well done that lady.”

Others also think the 16-year-old should have had the fare waived due to her age.

Alison Sangster said: “How kind of that lady. Shame on Railways to not let the lass board the next one. Nasty.”

Darren Dickson added: “Wouldn’t the company have a duty of care for the minor in a distressing time for her? Yes she made a mistake and missed her train but that may not have been her fault.

“What would people have been saying if something awful had happened to her?”
