Neville: Reds need a Robben to win title

UNITED need a ‘player similar to Arjen Robben’ to win the title, according to former skipper Gary Neville.

Jose Mourinho’s side got their title challenge off to the best possible start with a 4-0 win against West Ham at Old Trafford on Sunday.

It was one of the club’s finest attacking displays since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, with new signings Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku stealing the show.

And, while United have already spent £145m this summer, with Victor Lindelof also arriving from Benfica, Neville feels they are still a little short on the left-hand side.

“I’d name a player similar to Arjen Robben - a wide player. [Marcus] Rashford did very well but is he a wide player? Not really,” he told Sky Sports.

“I’m talking about someone who can generally play left side. If you could add one world-class winger to add to the squad you could say it was a complete squad…they are covered everywhere, they have such strength.”

United finished 24 points off champions Chelsea in sixth place last season after drawing a whopping 15 games.

But Neville feels his former side have to think big this season - even though they have not won the league since 2013.

“You can’t just drop your expectation because they haven’t won it for a couple of years. They have to win the league. Jose Mourinho has to win the league here,” he added.
