Mackie Mayor set to reopen next month

-

THE long-awaited city centre project from the team behind Altrincham Market has revealed details about its imminent launch.

Led by Nick Johnson and Jen Thompson, the team are currently renovating the Grade II-listed Mackie Mayor on Swan Street, and are planning to open next month, they have revealed in a Facebook post.

But according to the statement, this won’t be your average launch do.

They said: “You know us better than to expect a glitzy, glamourpuss launch. No PR’s, no ‘A’ list, no tantalising build-up, no false promise – just you and us and some talented, passionate people who care about what they do and aim to make you happy.

“That stance is a deliberate one, to put ‘content’ first, not ‘brand’ and celebrate an experience that simply isn’t available online.

“We hope to open our doors in mid-late September with a softly, softly approach as we bed-in, so please treat us gently at first until we have learned a little more about the subtleties and intricacies that come from breathing life back into this truly amazing building and making it work for you.

“As with Market House we will operate a strict no-bookings policy so that you can turn up on the spur of the moment and pitch-in, which is the way we like it.”

The team also put a call out for people to work in the city-centre venue.

“We have a very low turnover of staff, we pay well, we treat people fairly and we’re probably interested in you, if you’re interested in us,” they added.

“If you think you might like to work somewhere that does things differently and you’re prepared to work hard, then send your CV to: recruitment@ marketoperations.co.uk.”

The new Northern Quarter development will follow a similar model to Altrincham, with a central communal seating area surrounded by a selection of artisan food and drink outlets, and more seating for diners on a mezzanine floor above them.
