Government and airlines tell tourists to watch for updates
AIRLINES due to fly from Manchester to Barcelona in the wake of the terror attack have advised passengers to monitor their websites for updates.
A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman last night said it was working closely with Spanish authorities and asked travellers in Barcelona to follow advice from local emergency services.
There are regular flights from Manchester airport to Barcelona today, but airlines were advising travellers to stand by for updates.
The next flight to Barcelona was due to take off at 6.25am today followed by a Monarch service at 7.25am, with Jet2.com due to fly at 7.55am.
Vueling are due to fly out at 3.35pm.
All airlines are advising passengers to monitor their websites for any updates due to the changing nature of incidents like this.
A Monarch spokesman said: “Our thoughts are with those affected by this incident.
“Monarch’s flights are scheduled to operate as usual, subject to any recommendations or guidance from the Spanish authorities.”
A spokeswoman from Vueling said the situation was unfolding but that they would keep passengers updated.
Spokespersons from both Ryanair and Jet2.com have been contacted for their latest updates.
Passengers calling Iberia to get information at around 8pm last night were told by operators they did not have any advice ‘right now’ and were advised they call back ‘in two hours’.
