Seven heaven for foodies
GREATER Manchester has seven new entries in the latest Good Food Guide, which highlights the best restaurants around the country.
There are 33 restaurants around the region listed in this year’s guide, but only one bagged a coveted spot in its top 50 list city centre standout Adam Reid at The French.
The Midland Hotel’s fine dining restaurant has climbed up a place to number 17 since head chef Reid took over from Simon Rogan last year, and refreshed both the decor and the menu.
New entries to the guide’s 2018 edition include Where the Light Gets In, which opened in an old coffee warehouse in Stockport’s Old Town last year.
The Rabbit in the Moon, opened by Michelin-starred Man Behind The Curtain chef Michael O’Hare above the National Football Museum, also joins the guide, as does The Refuge, opened inside The Principal hotel by DJs-turned-restaurateurs The Unabombers.
Crowdfunded Didsbury bistro Hispi, opened by Sticky Walnut chef-proprietor Gary Usher; David Gale’s Whitefield restaurant One 88, and Altrincham tapas bar Porta are also new entries on to the list.
Italian restaurant Vero Moderno in Salford and sushi restaurant Umezushi, complete this year’s new entries.
The guide, published by Waitrose, is compiled through a mixture of anonymous inspections and feedback from readers. Good Food Guide editor Elizabeth Carter said: “Once again the readers of the guide have pointed our experts towards some brilliant eating in unexpected places.”
