NUISANCE YOUNGSTERS HAVE BEEN CLINGING ON TO MOVING BUSES

A CHILD has been banned from a town centre for 48 hours following reports of youths on bikes clinging on to the back of moving buses.

Officers have taken action after a series of incidents of anti-social behaviour, including yobs clutching on to buses without the driver being aware.

Police said a small group of youths have been causing problems for shoppers and nearby businesses in Middleton Gardens in Middleton town centre.

Officers have issued a dispersal order to a boy of around the age of 14, which means he is barred from returning to the area for 48 hours – and could be arrested if he does.

They also made him phone his mum and admit what had happened before arranging a lift home.

Officers have warned the parents of two other children about their involvement in the anti-social behaviour.

Police across Greater Manchester have the power to issue dispersal orders to help prevent anti social behaviour.

On the GMP Middleton Facebook page, Pc Stuart Ockwell said: “Sadly, we have had to implement a dispersal order within the Middleton Gardens area due to the increasing issues of anti-social behaviour being caused by a small section of Middleton youths, including holding on to the backs of buses on their bikes and being dragged down the street.

“The drivers are unaware of this and the potential consequences are obvious.

“In short, a constable or PCSO can issue the order and demand that person leaves the area immediately and not return for a period up to 48 hours.

“If they fail to comply with that notice they will be arrested.

“We have issued one such notice and made two phone calls to parents to advise them about the issues their sons are being associated with.

“I am sure if this was your child you would be horrified.

“We do have CCTV footage of all those involved and have identified most.

“The others will follow.”
