GAB’S GOING TO BE

- By CIARAN KELLY

GABRIEL Jesus has been tipped to become one of Brazil’s all-time greats.

Former international defender Cafu says the 20-year-old City striker could end up being mentioned in the same breath as legends Ronaldo and Romario.

Cafu, Brazil’s most capped player, thinks Jesus is possibly on the path to greatness, saying: “If Gabriel Jesus maintains his form for Brazil, I believe he’ll be up there with Romario and Ronaldo as an all-time great.”

Those two strikers are only behind the immortal Pele in terms of Brazil goalscoring, Romario third with 55 goals in 70 appearances for Brazil, with Ronaldo second after netting 62 in 98 games.

Ronaldo – who was known as The Phenomenon in Brazil – has said Jesus reminds him of himself in his pomp, and ANTHONY Martial does not want to leave United – and is also planning on winning ‘as many titles as possible’ with the club.

There have been doubts about the France international’s future at Old Trafford amid the club’s interest in Ivan Perisic. But it seems Martial is not entertaining the prospect of a move to Inter Milan.

“As a squad, we haven’t really talked about specific aims for the season too much so far, but the goal is to win as many titles as possible,” he said. “That is what we tried to do last year and it’s what we are going to try to do this year. Personally, my main goal is to win titles and medals, of course.

“I also want to play the most. I have always wanted to play since I was young and so now I’ve got to do my best to win the title. I do set myself targets for appearances and goals but I keep that to myself.”

Having finished in sixth place last season, United will be desperate to close that 24-point gap on champions Chelsea this time around.

And, although United are back in the Champions League after a year-long absence, Martial is targeting domestic glory first and foremost.

“Everybody in the league has been buying players, so it is going to be ever better and much more exciting for everyone – both for us and for those watching the Premier League,” he said. “We also have the Champions League to look forward to again and I think that is a competition every team wants to win. You have to work hard from the beginning to the end.”
