Faf’s perfect Sharks start

NEW signing Faf de Klerk made the perfect start to his Sale Sharks career as Steve Diamond’s men made it two wins from two in a second warm-up game against Edinburgh at Meggetland.

The South African scrum-half scored an early try in Sale’s 24-20 win.

Edinburgh put the first points on the board with a well struck penalty, but Sharks hit back when De Klerk crossed the whitewash to score on 10 minutes. AJ MacGinty missed he conversion.

Edinburgh took the lead again on 22 minutes with their second penalty but Byron McGuigan then went over in the corner after some expansive backs play. This was followed by another missed conversion by MacGinty.

Edinburgh made a great start to the second half, scoring a try and a conversion, followed shortly by penalty try as they put the pressure on the Sharks pack. Duncan Weir converted to make it 20-10.

Denny Solomona was unlucky not to score when he gathered a clever kick over the defence, but was tackled on the Edinburgh line.

Sharks’ legendary rolling maul earned a try through Bryn Evans on 58 minutes and MacGinty added the extras

Edinburgh held firm until their defence was breached when Andrei Ostrikov crashed over the line. Will Cliff took the conversion and slotted the ball home to give Sale another win.
