Mourinho: ‘Magic number isn’t four’

JOSE Mourinho will not badger United chief executive Ed Woodward if he cannot supply him with a fourth player in this transfer window.

With 13 days to go before the summer window shuts, United have brought in £140m-worth of new players in Romelu Lukaku from Everton, Nemanja Matic from Chelsea and Victor Lindelof from Benfica.

But Mourinho had handed Woodward a list of four new players he wanted at Old Trafford for this season.

United have been unable to shift Inter Milan’s stance on the £48m price for winger Ivan Perisic and so started last Sunday’s Premier League campaign with the three additions.

Suggestions that Mourinho was unhappy he didn’t get his wish for four players have been shot down by the Reds’ manager.

Asked if United are still in business for another player, Mourinho said: “I don’t think we are unless something happened that put us in market again.

“I told Mr Woodward obviously my plans were four but I also told him be cool, no pressure from me. I said to him do what you think is the best for the club.

“We will be together for another transfer window in January and next summer so there is no pressure from me at all.

“I am happy with the squad we have. I am ready to go without a fourth player. If we are out of the market, I am fine. I’m ready.”
