INJURY BOOST FOR REDS

- By SAMUEL LUCKHURST

UNITED duo Ashley Young and Luke Shaw will return from injury in the Under-23s’ home fixture against Swansea on Monday.

Shaw has not played since suffering ligament damage against Swansea on April 30 and Young injured his groin in the Europa League semi-final first leg victory at Celta Vigo four days later.

Both had to attend the Europa League final in Stockholm on crutches and Jose Mourinho claimed last month Young would return in October and Shaw would be back next month.

However, both are set for run-outs with the reserves next week ahead of returning to the first-team next month.

“Everybody is fine. The next week, on Monday, in the Under-23s game, Luke Shaw and Ashley Young are playing their first minutes of competition this season,” he told MUTV.

“It is like a pre-season match for them. But it is good news because, when they can play with the Under-23s, it is because the last week they trained with us all week so they are both coming [back].”

Young and Shaw participated in a six-a-side session at Old Trafford following last week’s home thumping of West Ham and will bolster Mourinho’s options on the left-hand side.

Mourinho wants to sign a left winger, however, the imminent return of Shaw and Young could ensure United end their summer transfer dealings.
