Straight-As Molly plans a life of helping animals
BUDDING scientists, conservationists and marketing directors were among students left delighted on A level results day at Cheadle and Marple Sixth Form College.
The college, which has a campus in both areas, had a 98 per cent pass rate with around 11pc of pupils getting either three As or three distinctions in vocational courses.
At the Marple campus, on Buxton Lane, Molly Rowell, 19, from Chinley, was among those celebrating.
She was awarded As in biology, physics and geography and will study zoology at Aberystwyth.
Molly hopes to carry out conservation work helping to deter poaching in South Africa and said: “It feels amazing, I was so scared and only got four hours sleep last night.
“We went to South Africa last year and I fell in love with it but there is a big poaching problem. I wanted to be a vet but I don’t like blood so that would be the perfect alternative.”
David Bonham, 18, from Chapel, was awarded A*s in chemistry and physics, an A in maths and a B in further maths. He said: “I wasn’t nervous until 9pm last night but since then I’ve been on edge. It’s great it’s all over and now I can get ready for university in September.”
David will study natural science at the University of York.
Star student Lucy Corcoran, 18, from Romiley, achieved an A* in English and As in business and history.
She has worked as a marketing manager for IT security firm Distology and through this company will take a management apprenticeship degree at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Lucy said: “I love exams, I get an adrenaline rush and excited. It’s still not sunk in.”
And Karston Wood, 18, from Bredbury, is off to Liverpool John Moores to study psychology after getting aB, C and D in his A levels.
He said: “The results are not quite as good as anticipated but I got into university and that is all that matters, they are just letters.
“The last couple of weeks have been awful, I’ve been dreading today.”
Assistant principal Spencer Davies said: “We are very happy.
“The reason we come into this job is to help people get from school to employment, university or apprenticeships.
“Days like today when you see happy smiles makes you feel really proud.”
Elsewhere in Stockport, Cheadle Hulme High School celebrated a strong set of results with 70pc of A-level grades at A*-B.
More than half of their students will be going to Russell Group universities.
