Cheadle Hulme celebrate their smokin’ hot results

-

STUDENTS at Cheadle Hulme School were celebrating as they got the grades needed to take the next step in their lives.

The school, on Claremont Road, had a 99 per cent pass rate and pupils are off to universities including Oxford, Cambridge, Durham and Exeter.

Top performer was Alex Benton with four A*s and he will now have a year in industry, working for a design agency in Cambridge.

He said: I’m really pleased, the placement I’ll be doing is part of a year in industry scheme, so I’ll be spending 12 months working while figuring out my next move.”

Other pupils to have earned straight As were Matthew Brint, Tom Powell, Charlotte Brady, Sophie McFarlane, Lottie Needham and Patrick Robbins.

Tom, who will study maths at University of Oxford’s Keble College, said: “It’s like one of those moments where classical music should be playing and you really think, ‘someone should be editing this’. I can’t wait for the next step, I’m really excited.”

Matthew is another having a year out and considering some work experience in the finance sector.

He said: “I couldn’t wait to find out how I’d done and had to check my results online before coming into school. I’m pleased, I’m thinking I’ll reapply to university next year and just take a year out to see what happens.”

Sophie, who will read software development at Durham University, said: “It’s something I really want to do.

“There’s only 10 girls on the course so it’s important other girls aren’t afraid to consider these subjects. I’ve already done trials for the university netball team too.”

At the school 75pc of students received grades that were all A* to B.

Headteacher Lucy Pearson said: “We are really pleased with results for the students this year and they have every reason to be proud.

“As might be expected the vast majority are now going to take up their places at university but there are also growing numbers who are choosing other paths and these results will stand them in excellent stead.

“Having strong A level results is about giving yourself options and students have done precisely that.”
