Golden girls fly high

HIGH-FLYING girls topped the tables with their outstandin­g grades at Bolton School.

Leaders at the school say the percentage of papers graded A*-B and A*-C improved this year in the Girls’ Division.

More than three-quarters of grades were in the A*-B range, up from 72.4pc last year to 76.6pc this year.

There was a similar improvemen­t in the percentage of A*-C grades, up from 89.3pc to 93.3pc this year.

Five girls students were successful in their Oxford and Cambridge applicatio­ns.

Francesca Adams will study natural sciences at Murray Edwards College at Cambridge and Anjali Anicatt will study history at St John’s College at Oxford.

Georgina Owen, who captained the North of England lacrosse team, juggled her sporting commitment­s with study to achieve two A*s and an A and heads off to study mathematic­s at Bristol.

Head Sue Hincks said: “I am delighted with the girls’ success once again this year and pleased that these results will allow the vast majority to accept places at their top choice university.”

The overall A level pass rate in the girls division stood at 100pc this year compared to 99.7pc in the boys division. Five boys came away with more than three A* grades and two students achieved the impressive feat of securing five A* grades.

Muhiyud-Dean Mirza, who will go on to study Maths at Warwick and Jack Virgin who heads off to Oxford.
