-

TWO students from Audenshaw School are to take up places at colleges in Oxford and Cambridge after achieving outstanding A level results.

Rachael Bragg, from Droylsden, will attend Pembroke College, Oxford, to study history, while fellow sixth form student Daniel Beech will follow in the footsteps of Sir Isaac Newton by reading natural sciences at Trinity College, Cambridge.

Rachael, who was one of just 875 students nationwide to gain a place at Oxford University’s summer school last year, gained A* in history, A in Politics, B in English literature and B in maths.

The 18-year-old said: “I’m really surprised and excited by my results and can’t wait to get to Oxford!

“Although some girls might think it’s daunting moving to a boys’ school, I’ve been made to feel very welcome and want to encourage other girls to make the move.”

Daniel, from Denton, who was awarded four A* grades in maths, further maths, physics and chemistry said: “I got what I expected – but the key is to put in the hard work. All the staff have been very supportive and it was great to my see my results in black and white.”

Head boy Harry Hind secured a place Durham University thanks to his set of impressive grades.

He got an A* in maths, A in history, A in further maths and A in English literature.

The 18-year-old will be continuing his studies in English literature at Trevelyan College.

He said: “I’m really relieved. They’re the results I was hoping for. The teachers at Audenshaw have all gone above and beyond, and have helped me a lot.”
