800 pupils book uni places

SCORES of students secured their future at university or the world of work on A-level results day.

More than 800 pupils will be going on to university after achieving a 98pc A level pass rate at Bury College.

Many pursuing vocational qualificat­ions will also be going on to full time employment or apprentice­ships, college bosses said.

Bury College principal Charlie Deane said: “Bury College is extremely proud of the efforts, achievemen­ts and successes of our students and staff. Hundreds of learners will now be progressin­g to university or employment as a result of the high grades they have achieved in their A levels and Advanced Level Vocational courses.

“These remarkable achievemen­ts clearly support the recognitio­n in the 2017 Department for Education performanc­e tables that Bury College is one of the top five further education colleges in the country for Advanced Level 3 vocational progress.

“In addition to our students’ achievemen­ts, learners have benefited from a strong preparatio­n for their continuing education and employment and are equipped with vital skills they need to take on the challenges of their future careers and studies.”

Over at Holy Cross Sixth Form College 98pc passed their A-levels with more than 60 pupils achieving at least three A* and A grades.

More than eight students have been offered places at Oxford or Cambridge.

David Frost, principal of Holy Cross College, said: “I am delighted once again for both our students and our staff at the very high level of achievemen­t at A level and BTEC at Holy Cross, and even more delighted to see results and value added improving still further from last year. It is always inspiring to see such a high proportion of A*, A and B grades, as well as distinctio­ns at BTEC, and this has climbed again this year.”
