Art of success
STUDENTS at Trafford College celebrated a bumper year of impressive A-level results.
Excited students gathered at the Altrincham campus to open their results with an overall pass rate of 97pc plus a 10pc increase in grades at A*-B.
Celebrating the start of her journey to university life was one of the college’s highest achievers, Monika Titane.
Monika, 19, added an impressive A* and A to her string of A level successes after scooping two A* grades last year, bringing her grand total to three A*s and an A.
Chicago-born Monika moved to Latvia as a child before moving to the UK when she was 16.
Despite settling into a new country and new study environment, Monika breezed through her course work and exams.
She is now looking forward to studying the history of art at The University of Manchester.
Monika said: “I’m absolutely thrilled with my results. I’d never studied in the UK before coming to Trafford College and I got all the support I needed and more. I can’t recommend studying at Trafford College enough! To anyone considering this route I‘d say go for it; don’t be daunted by the workload, just take it step by step and speak to your tutors, because they really are amazing here.”
Joining Monika in the celebrations was Matthew Loughrey who scooped two A*s and a B in maths, chemistry and biology.
Having secured his place at York University, Matthew is now set to commence his studies in natural science, specialising in neuroscience, in his bid to one day help produce essential drugs for people with brain disorders.
He said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here at Trafford College and would really recommend it to others. You’re trusted to work on your own but at the same time you get all the support you need. While studying biology, we covered neurons and I was totally gripped by it. I started doing my own research and I was hooked. I knew straight away that I wanted to base my career around this subject and I’m very excited to be furthering my education in this field.”
Trafford College principal, Lesley Davies, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be celebrating another fantastic year of results with our students today, especially in light of the challenges presented by new A level qualifications.
“Our students have performed incredibly well and we are thrilled to see them progress on to a range of exciting paths, including the start of degree programmes at some of the UK’s most prestigious universities.”
