Jose in the dark over Pogba injury

- By SAMUEL LUCKHURST

UNITED will assess Paul Pogba’s suspected hamstring injury after he was forced off during their Champions League group stage win over Basel.

Pogba, who was named captain for the first time by Jose Mourinho, lasted just 19 minutes against the Swiss champions before he was replaced by Marouane Fellaini.

Pogba was later seen to leave Old Trafford on crutches.

The Frenchman suffered a hamstring injury in March and was sidelined for more than three weeks but only missed two United matches due to the spring internationals. Pogba also suffered another muscle injury the following month and was unavailable for the Manchester derby at City. United entertain Everton in the Premier League on Sunday and have four more fixtures over the next two-and-a-half weeks – and Mourinho admitted he did not know how serious Pogba’s injury was.

“I don’t know, honestly, but by experience, just by looking and feeling it, I think it’s a hamstring,” he said. “Big, small, I don’t know. But a hamstring presumably.”

United won 3-0 convincingly at Old Trafford through goals from Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford.

“Three important points, first match at home,” Mourinho added.

“Now we finish at home too [against CSKA Moscow], which gives us a chance to play here in the last match in case we need these points to qualify.

“But in between we have difficult matches away from home, but to start with three points is good.”
