GEMMA Atkinson and her dance partner Aljaž Škorjanec have started their Strictly Come Dancing training – but their practice was interrupted when the gym was evacuated.
Former Emmerdale actress Gemma and professional dancer Aljaž were all smiles as they left Virgin Active as part of a fire alarm test at the Lowry Outlet at Salford Quays. Clutching a large bottle of water, the Key 103 breakfast show presenter looked in great shape as she left the health club wearing purple workout leggings and a denim jacket. People were evacuated from the outlet as part of a routine test carried out every six months, lasting for around 15 minutes just after 10am. The Bury-born celeb was paired with Slovenian hunk Aljaž as Strictly Come Dancing returned to our TV screens on Saturday night. Gemma, who became a household name with roles in Casualty, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, said before the pairings were announced: “I’m beyond excited and incredibly nervous, but looking forward to learning a new skill.” This week she was asking her followers on social media for ideas for a team name for her and Aljaž and some of the suggestions included ‘Jazgem’ and ‘Gemali’ or ‘Team Norman’ after her beloved pet dog. After their partnership was announced Aljaž told fans: “So very very happy to be dancing with @glouiseatkinson! “Can’t wait to start rehearsing.” The first live Strictly show is aired on BBC One on Saturday, September 23.
