CITY SPECIAL Bernardo: Mendy plays it for laughs

- By STUART BRENNAN

BENJAMIN Mendy is even crazier in real life than he is on social media, his close pal Bernardo Silva has revealed.

The two City stars are close friends from their Monaco days and Portugal international Bernardo is frequently the butt of Mendy’s jokes.

But France star Mendy has also added his own brand of liveliness into a City defence, along with Kyle Walker at right-back.

Mendy had become a firm favourite with Blues fans even before he kicked a ball, his sense of fun coming across loud and clear on Twitter and Instagram.

But once he started playing, those fans got even more excited about his arrival, and he has quickly become a key man in a youthful, ambitious City team.

Said Bernardo of his pal: “He is a great guy, on and off the pitch, he is a great player and a fantastic person as well.

“He is a big friend of mine, so for me it’s a pleasure to have him here.

“He has been helping a lot in the last games. To have him and Kyle in this team is great as well.”

Asked if he is as bonkers in real life as he appears on social media, Bernardo laughed out loud and replied: “Yes. It’s even worse,” and said that he is always playing practical jokes.

Mendy has filmed Bernardo going to the toilet, tweeted that his brush with the police at Bournemouth was due to a ‘cheeky’ parking fine at Nando’s and teased City fans in the summer by posting a picture of himself in Union Jack shorts prior to joining the club.
