GAB SET FOR NEW MEGA BLUES DEAL

CITY BID TO WARD OFF MADRID AND BARCA BY HANDING JESUS NEW MEGABUCKS CONTRACT

- By JAMES ROBSON

GABRIEL Jesus will sign a new contract at City after confirming his intention to be a pivotal part of Pep Guardiola’s revolution.

The Brazilian has opened negotiations on an improved deal just nine months after his £27m move from Palmeiras.

And talks have gone so smoothly the new contract could be completed as early as next month.

City have moved quickly to fend off any interest from Europe’s giants by rewarding the 20-year-old for his stunning impact since arriving in January.

His current deal is believed to be worth in the region of £70,000-a-week - but he can expect a significant increase, more in keeping with his status as one of Europe’s brightest talents.

City have acted after a recordbreaking summer, which has seen transfer fees rapidly escalate.

Paris St Germain’s £200m deal for Barcelona forward Neymar has proven that even the biggest clubs are vulnerable to losing star players.

The Blues see Jesus as a key part of their plans under Guardiola - privately believing he represents better value for money than Neymar.

And they want to reward him accordingly to avoid any danger of his head being turned next summer. He is already contracted until 2021, but his new deal could see that extended by a year.
