CORONATION Street star Simon Gregson has praised the NHS after a hero doctor saved his wife’s life.

Mother-of-three Emma Gleave, 34, says she was just a couple of hours from death after falling ill over the weekend.

Emma, who was rushed into Wythenshawe Hospital, says staff shortages meant there was no doctor on call to treat her – until a consultant made a midnight dash to perform a scan followed by life-saving surgery.

Sharing her story and thanks to the NHS on her Instagram she said: “I usually wouldn’t do this but I was a couple of hours away from not being here to write this.

“Last night I was rushed into Wythenshawe Hospital. Long story short, I needed a scan desperately late last night and due to staff shortages no-one was on call. I owe my life to Dr Arora who travelled to scan me at midnight and performed life-saving surgery on me through the night.”

She added: “Our NHS is amazing !!!!! Everyone here does the work of 10 people on their own! Stop the cuts .... the NHS are the backbone of our country. Feeling very lucky today.”

Actor Simon tweeted: “@ NHSEngland so three times the wonderful doctors of the NHS have saved my wife’s life even when so over worked and at breaking point.”

Followers rushed to post get well messages to Emma, who has three sons Alfie, Harry and one-year-old Teddy with Corrie favourite Simon – who plays Steve McDonald.

One said: “Thank goodness you got the treatment you desperately needed and thank God for our NHS staff who work relentlessly to deliver our care. Wishing you a safe and speedy recovery with your beautiful family xxx”

The couple haven’t divulged why Emma was rushed into hospital for the medical emergency.

Earlier this year Simon revealed the heartbreaking secret that he and Emma had suffered 11 miscarriages, including one at 21 weeks and four days as his on-screen character and ex-wife Michelle lost their baby son Ruairi at 23 weeks.

Just hours before the heartwrenching miscarriage scenes were screened, Simon hit back at a troll who tweeted his wife on Twitter over the hard-hitting storyline, for which they worked with the stillbirth charity Sands.
