A YOUNG boy who was found dead with stab wounds in a house in Wythenshawe has been named.

James Chilvers, aged one, was discovered in an empty property in Beaford Road, three weeks ago.

A Home Office post mortem examination found the boy had suffered multiple stab wounds.

The inquest into James’ death was opened and adjourned at Manchester town hall yesterday morning.

The brief hearing, led by assistant coroner Anthony Mazzag, was adjourned and scheduled for December 15.

Further investigations and reports will be conducted before the next hearing.

Police confirmed a 30-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in hospital for treatment.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder but was released without charge.

Police were called to reports of a domestic incident at the house at 12.05am on Sunday, August 27.

At the time Superintendent Denise Worth said: “I know the community will be horrified and saddened to hear this tragic news this morning, and our thoughts at this time are with the family, friends and all others within the local community who may be affected by this incident.

“I want to offer my assurances that we have launched a full murder investigation and have a team of detectives working to establish exactly what led to this young boy’s death.

“Although we have made an arrest, the investigation is at the early stages and I would urge people not to speculate on this deeply distressing incident.”

GMP previously said that officers had been called to the property in the days before the boy’s death.

The force referred itself to the Independent Police Complaints Commission as police had previously been called to the house on August 25.

A spokesman did not give any more information about why they were called out, or the detail of the investigation.
