Deadly Dale cruise to win at Shakers
ROCHDALE got their Checkatrade Trophy campaign off to a flying start with a 4-0 win at neighbours Bury last night.
Keith Hill’s men took the lead after just 12 minutes through Joe Bunney.
The left-back was played in by Bradden Inman and sent a right-foot effort past Shakers keeper Leo Fasan.
Four minutes later Inman doubled Dale’s lead with a right-footed shot after an assist from Daniel Adshead.
This prompted Bury into action and Ryan Lowe hit the post in the 21st minute to give the home crowd something to shout about.
The game was effectively wrapped up 10 minutes before half-time when Inman got his second goal of the game.
The midfielder, on loan from Peterborough United, powered his way past his marker and latched onto a long ball from Joe Rafferty.
Bury boss Lee Clark made a couple of changes at half-time, but Rochdale scored their fourth goal six minutes after the break – Ian Henderson sending his effort in off the post.
Meanwhile, in the Carabao Cup third round Bolton Wanderers couldn’t cause an upset at Premier League West Ham – losing 3-0 thanks to goals from Angelo Ogbonna, Diafra Sakho and Arthur Masuaka.
Defender Mark Beevers had Bolton’s only chance, but headed straight at the keeper.
In League One Wigan Athletic climbed to second in the table with a 1-0 win against Northampton.
