Boss full of praise for attacking flair
JOSE Mourinho praised United’s forwards after the Carabao Cup third round win over Burton.
The Reds scored four goals for the fourth time this season to set up a fourth round tie at Swansea next month, as Marcus Rashford netted a brace.
Juan Mata was withdrawn at half-time ahead of Saturday’s trip to Southampton, while Jesse Lingard got his first goal of the season, and Anthony Martial struck his fourth of the campaign with a second-half finish.
Two of the quartet might start the weekend fixture on the bench at St Mary’s as Mourinho prepares to recall Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Romelu Lukaku, but the United manager was pleased with how they performed against the Championship side.
“Martial was good, Lingard was good, Mata was good,” Mourinho said.
“I think everybody in attacking areas gave a good dynamic in the team. We look happy playing at this moment and that is what I want.
“Anthony Martial wanted to do things. Some he did amazingly well, others not so well but he was always trying and that commitment and happiness on the pitch is always important.”
Mourinho was also asked if he had learned anything from United’s latest win. He said: “Nothing new, just what I know. They all want to play, are ready to play, use the minutes they are on the pitch and I enjoy it very much collectively.
“I think they enjoy the game because in these League Cup matches I think it’s essential.
“Very professional performance. In the first-half we gave no chance to the opponent.”
